It was said by a National Institute of Health panel that the statistics of babies that are not seen to have hearing disabilities are more than half of that are born and it is only noticed when they are about two years at which time it would have become permanent. For this reason the NIH committee suggested using a new technology a few hours later for new born that will see if they have hearing deficiencies. The response of the audience composed of healthcare workers who work closely with children who are hearing impaired was positive. The committee put in order by the National Institute of Health claims that one baby in every 1,000 born in the US will be deaf. There is early detection for about less than half of the cases since today doctors need to screen babies that are deemed to have a high risk of having hearing impairments because of birth problems. According to the chairman of the committee and a professor at Loyola University in Chicago without detection of hearing problems by the time the child is 3 years old will now bring permanent speech and hearing problems.
The professor further stated that around two and one half years old is the average age a child should be screen for hearing problems however in the future they plan to lower the age to about 6 months. With the new instruments that are surfacing today, it is now possible to detect hearing deficiencies on new born. In addition a new way of screening babies is now being suggested which will make use of an instrument that will check for otoacoustic emissions on new born babies.
It is a simple process that will involve an instrument that resembles earphones which will give off a sound that looks for an echo in the inner ear. Then, the response hear will go under a machine that will analyze it to see if the inner ear is work normally or not. A secondary test will be done called auditory brainstem responses to confirm if there is hearing loss once the infant fails this first test. The same process on the first test applies to the second only this time sensors are placed on the head. Once the sound is heard normally, the sensors will indicate a certain brain wave pattern.
The two tests are able to assess the degree of reaction on gets with the sound. Since the second more is a bit more complicated it will cost more about $75 to $125 while the first is only about $25. It will take to US government about $150 million to $200 million just to get their new born tested but this is a lesser expense than the billion they would spend for more medication in the long run.

Sadly some high school graduates whose hearing damage was not seen earlier will end up having reading skills fit for seventh grade only research suggests. In early detection a country will not only help its citizens but also save money.
